Hello! I'm Don Fassbender. I am a Scuba diver with a broad interest in the sport.
If you like diving under ice, in the Caribbean, or exploring well-preserved shipwrecks in Lake Superior, I invite you to watch my videos. You'll see the technical quality of my videos progress as my channel grows.
Recently, I've had the opportunity to test dive lights for a manufacturer and I'm interested in more collaborations. If you have a product for me to test and review, my email and postal addresses are below.
I also like to find new dive locations and underwater "treasures." I enjoy teaching new friends about dive gear from all eras of this fantastic sport.
Leave a comment and let me know how I'm doing! Thanks for watching my channel.
As always, dive safe!

Installing a dive buoy and anchor on the D Leuty shipwreck
The Great Lakes Scuba Divers and Lake Preservation dive club in Marquette, MI. installed a Coast Guard approved lighted buoy on the wreck of the D Leuty. The Leuty was seeking shelter from a snow squall on October 31st. 1911. She almost made it. In fact, she went down less than 1000 feet from the Marquette lighthouse. She lies in 25 to 40' of water and is an easy wreck to dive. Though much of it was salvaged, the history and convenient location make it a great dive.

This dock had many camps and businesses on it for years and years. Not long ago it was treated as a du...

whats are some of the better scooters you have tried for the money?
Cool gear, thank you for explaining everything
I think any tank older than 20 years... Just scrap it. A 200 or 300 bar explosion is not worth the cost savings. Such explosion is deadly. I bought 2 15L 200 bar tanks for 470 euros a piece, brand new. Pretty sure I can dive with these with confidence for the upcoming 20 years.
Don, I can’t help but be jealous of the wonderful area that you get to dive… I love the wrecks
And wrecks we have! Let me know when you're ready for a road trip. We have all kinds of dive plans. Unfortunately, the act of putting videos together has found its way to the back burner. Now if I could discover a way to add a few hours to a day...
I have this except mines black it works in the pool at the house and I been deep in the ocean you should try it this summer
Have a US Divers Royal Aquamaster with the 3000psi yoke.
With a new diaphragm and a little TLC, you have a nice useable regulator 👍
What is the average length of the hoses on vintage us divers double hose regulators ken
The 1990 rule isn't finite. There are several Luxfer tanks older than 1990 that are 6061. You need to check the Luxfur spec sheet. They started switching around 1986 until 88.
True, but show me a dive shop that will scrutinize an older tank this closely.
I remember there was a exchange program for the 6031 aluminum tanks but what really scares me is 7032 aluminum I don't think that it's used in scuba yet though
Hello and thank you for your video.can you help me find a complete second stage and maybe prices.does anyone sell complete parts so all I have to do is screw bands on both hoses and send it to get an annual done, all three first stages are us diver thanks Ken
Im curious about a yellow fiberglass(looking) scuba air tank i have. First, im not a diver and dont want to use it for diving. The tank is super light, it is dated 1987 and says next inspec date 1997. Appears in good condition. What i want to do is make a air tank tire bead setter, basically a homade version. You put a threaded fitting in the top of the tank with a ball valve, a metal Schrader valve. And a open end with a big flaired out tip (thats what you set a tire bead with). Anyways i see the tanks rated to around 2300+ psi. I want to know if its (possibly) safe to fill with just 100 psi to use like i stated. 😄 i realize this might sound crazy to some but i think maybe some others might get my idea. The tanks old, its looks like some type of fiber glass, thats my concern..but i know there very high pressure vessels, so a 100psi aint much right..The threaded neck is steel (appears to be lefty threads) If the whole tank was steel or aluminum i wouldnt even sweat 100 psi.. Doesnt look to have ever been dropped (its yellow paint is perfect) and the type of material this things made with, along with how thickly wrapped the thing is, even if you did drop it i dont think it would faze it. Any input would be appreciated, and any criticism would be hilarious. Thanks! Edit-- after watching the video aswell as others, Im really appreciating writing this comment with my two hands.. i think ill toss the tank or make a wall decoration with it. Thanks for making videos like this. The whole possibility of a crack in the neck alone has made me hesitant to pressurize this old tank.😮
Very cool! Nice work
Thanks, Tony!
I love working under water, it turns out I like watching others work under water too.
Thanks, Mark! I really had to cut this one down too. I'm not sure if folks would have enjoyed two hours worth over playing with weights and chains ;)

Very Nice, And Great Visibility. I'm use to lake vis in SC.
Superior can be really clear at times. Here we had maybe 15' of visibility, so, not bad!
Great video my guy live over here on the West Coast what is the water temp?
Thanks! We're enjoying 50+ degree water still. Great time to get out while the weather permits.
Very cool! Love the fact you know the underwater landscape so well that you know “where the crayfish hang out”!
If it were a little later, I probably would have spotted more. Still glad to see them and the fish.
That fish was an end of it's life chinook salmon. The white at the tail and fin tips is the decay that all Pacific salmon go through at the end of their lives.
Hi Don. I really want to get back into snorkeling. Do you have a suggestion for a quality mask, finns, and snorkel? Your Amazon link is not active, I tried to check there first. Thanks from a fellow Trowber. ~Dan
Yeah, Covid kinda killed a lot of things, including my Amazon store. I should revisit all that this winter. I have good luck with TUSA. The Scuba instructor at NMU sells it. His last name is Thomas and ypu can connect with him through NMUs directory. Good luck, it's a lot if fun and the lake is pretty warm right now.
Some friends and I used to snorkel dive there almost every hot Summer day in the mid 80's. Rode our bikes from Trowbridge to PR every chance we got.
I grew up just west of Trobe in the 80s. Remember Bancroft dairy?
@@DonFassbender It was gone shortly before I was able venture off on my own. We rode our bikes from the trail on Vandenboom St. to the former site all the time.
@@webb-cast1030 Small world. I grew up on the corner of Wright St. and 41. Lots of changes since then.
This is a piece of junk. It is notoriously unreliable, it weighs a ton, it is actually NOTnimble at all underwater but cumbersome to even turn quickly. Anyone who has truly used this knows I am telling the truth. The "speed button" is very unreliable and will only likely work for a short time before failing. AND the company put this out to market and then abandoned it within 3 years. No help, no support and NO replacement parts. I paid over $1200 for this and got maybe a total of 10 uses out of it - and this with not one but 2 replacement right wings which house the failed (twice!) speed button. Now the distributor cannot help me because the manufacturer (another fail from SHENZEN) has not only stopped selling it but will not provide replacement parts. In short I got screwed. BUT it sure LOOKS nice. Do NOT buy new (if you can even find one now) DO NOT buy used - you have my guarantee the seller is trying to dump it in disappointment. It should be some kind of international crime that a company can make somethjing and then sell it worldwide only to dump it a few years later, leavinbg the consumer ripped off with no recourse. Be very suspicious of the Shenzen based company, HAVOSPARK that made this joke and be very cautious about any other products they may produce. You will be sorry if you waste your hard earned US dollars on their products
I too am disapointed that they have discontinued it. I bought two replacement batteries for aprox $400, but luckily, nothing on mine has failed the way yours has. I just need the extra power as it gets a lot of use when we do take it out. Havospank won't have batteries for very long either. I wonder how many machines were produced?

The voiceover is a nice touch Don - and the quality was pro. You are our tour guide in the deep!
Thanks, Ken! I need to focus on our 5th annual cleanup that's just under a month away, but I should be able to add a couple more videos before then 👍

Thanks! I need to go back to that area to see if any new 'deposits' have been made 😎
I liked the voice over… I like to find recently dropped towels, because it keeps my garage towels for washing cars and such in good supply
I'm right there with you. Glad you like the VO. I may incorporate it in more videos. Glad to see you have your opening back in your videos. Did you film a new intro?
It should be registered with the FAA and can be traced to the owner
I thought only those that weigh so much need to be registered?
I am not sure I always thought all has to be registered. Good luck
Thanks, @Blake-qs8nv ! I'll ask a couple friends who own drones.
Nice finds, the Water is so clear
I love Lake Superior, Very clear water!
you should by an underwater metal detector, that could simplify things
I have one. The problem is that used to be an iron ore dock and there's tons of iron pellets under it. My detector would be going off constantly. I'll have to do a meetal detecting dive again soon.

Hi Don, that was a pretty good overview of the quarry. Having heard about it for decades it is good to finally see it, the water is clearer than I expected. What are the depths?
I believe 140 is the deepest. I haven't been to the deep end yet, but it'll happen. There's paddlefish, sturgeon, and more props. I won't be going back this year but I'll probably go again next year.
What brand suits are you wearing
They're Waterpoof suits. They brand is owned by TUSA. Good suits 👍

Love my vintage gear 👍
Looks like lots of underwater sites to explore!
I couldn't fit even half of the props in this video. Pretty much showed the best, though. Ever dive here?
@@DonFassbender I haven’t, but it is on my list for inland diving.
@Yooperlife Make sure us Yoopers know when you plan to go.
@@DonFassbender will do!
Interesting dive spot,
There are several privately owned quarries that are like this. The owners clean everyday objects and then lower them in the water and charge divers by the day. A lot of training takes place here. In fact, they have 4 or 5 platforms just for instruction and practice. There's a deep side that I'd like to explore next. I couldn't with Nina.
Y la Naturaleza? Demasiado humanizado ese lugar. Porque tanta cosa abajo del agua? Algo natural?
A muchos buzos les gusta Gilboa por las atracciones submarinas. También es un buen lugar para entrenar. Pero tienes razón, no es para todo el mundo.

Hey Dan, Hope you're well!
That crab looked pretty interested!
It did have a menacing look, but that swagger, look out 😎
Night dives in the ocean are always exciting. You never know what will be looking back at you.
I agree. Can't wait to do that again. Florida for spring break, probably.
Sounds like drone operators need to start writing their phone numbers on the drones with a sharpie.
Good idea. They could also put a contact file on the Sim card. Those things are pretty durable.
Do you recognize the building or area on footage?
That Spartan stadium @ 3:44, and he's wearing a Michigan State University shirt in what looks like a dormitory. I do believe school is out for the summer, though, so he could be a native Yooper, someone who lives in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, who has come back home for the summer. I do believe he'll eventually stumble across this video or the shared posts on social media.
Can I have the drone if he don’t claim it?
I'd like to think he'll eventually find this video, Brett. Besides. Without a remote, it probably isn't worth much. I'll keep you posted.
Always wondered what it looked like down there
I sure hope to get back there again soon. I here there might be ruins and/or abandoned equipment down there.
Looks like decent viz out there in the cove. It was pretty bad over in L'anse yesterday.
I've seen better. No complaints though. Gotta get a Over to L'Anse soon. Warming up any?
